Synexus launches enterprise document management system

Posted by Emily Hill on Wed, Aug 02, 2017

Qualsys are delighted to announce that Synexus, the world's leading site management organisation, has recently launched EQMS Document Manager across its entire company.

Synexus engages, recruits and manages patients for clinical trial research. The company has grown significantly both in the UK and abroad, and has been recognised by The Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 as one of Britain's private companies with the fastest-growing international sales.

As the company continued to grow, Synexus sought a solution which would enable all its employees to access controlled information. After a competitive tendering process, it opted for EQMS by Qualsys

"Synexus has grown 400% in the past few years. Currently, all employees have a very high understanding of compliance and quality requirements. However, as we continue to grow to 5,000 employees by 2020, we needed a system which would give managers better visibility into issues and challenges."

EQMS workflows

Robert Oakley, Commercial Director at Qualsys and account manager for Synexus, said: "We're really excited about our partnership with Synexus. Our Customer Success Team have been working closely with Synexus to train, implement and engage their employees with EQMS. So far, it's been a huge success with almost all employees logging into the system over the past few weeks."

To drive engagement with EQMS, Synexus asked their employees to choose a name for EQMS.
EQMS has been rebranded to eQual.

Friday Feature – Hacking Cheats Expose Cheating Hacks: Ashley Madison Data Released This Week

Posted by Alastair Atcheson on Fri, Aug 21, 2015

Recent severe data breaches have been disastrous for extramarital affair site Ashley Madison.  Discretion has been one of the company’s key selling points, and in a television interview last year, CEO Noel Biderman described the company's servers as "kind of untouchable."

However, despite Biderman’s faith that his servers would stay the course of any onslaught that faced them, it was confirmed this week that hacking group Impact Team has definitely been touching his, and it would appear everybody else’s, sensitive data.

secure

The group released two bundles of information to the dark Web. This includes names, email addresses and bank details of current and previous members of the site, as well as source code for apps the company has developed and emails from the company’s CEO.

Whilst the data has been released in a large and technically complex database, the fact that it is in the public domain at all has massively increased the pressure on the organization’s already strained parent company, Avid Life Media Inc.

While your organization may not handle data as intimate as Ashley Madison does, this kind of security nightmare will be all too familiar for some organizations. Since 2012, 14% of companies have experienced and reported a data breach. These incidents can have severe consequences including:

  • Loss of valuable information
  • Loss of customer confidence
  • Bad publicity
  • Excess litigation costs

doomgloom

Customer confidence is fundamental to the success of any organization, but could not be more crucial than in the online marketplace. Users trust websites with their most private information (addresses, bank details, affair partners) and will lose complete confidence in organizations that mismanage that information.

Successful information governance is built upon a successful management system. EQMS software consolidates and integrates governance, risk management and compliance initiatives across your organization with a single solution.

With steadfast security and built-in compliance, EQMS Document Manager delivers absolute control over your critical documentation. Document Manager helps to clear your system of redundant data by ensuring that users only access the latest version of important documents and prevent the use of inaccurate and out-of-date material.

You can manage security breaches, data leaks and other business risks easily and efficiently with EQMS Risk Manager.

Easily configured to support your risk and control framework to address both Operational and Enterprise risks, EQMS Risk Manager enables you to control and manage risks with complete confidence.

Friday Feature – Redundant Data Leaves Ashley Madison Red-Faced

Posted by Alastair Atcheson on Fri, Jul 24, 2015

Information governance and security is paramount for any organisation handling private data. This is especially true for companies whose very business model is based upon discretion.

Online affairs website Ashley Madison exposed a little more than expected this week when a hacking group called ‘The Impact Team’ threatened to release the account data of its 38 million users. The hackers main point of contention does not lie with the infidelity of Ashley Madison users, but with the website’s policy of charging users £15 to carry out a full delete of their data – while often retaining credit card information and private addresses.

The hackers demand that Avid Life takes Ashley Madison offline permanently, and has no doubt prompted all of the websites users to question the validity of Ashley Madison’s ‘Trusted Security Award.’

While your organisation may not handle data as intimate as Ashley Madison does, this kind of security nightmare will hit close to home for some businesses. In the past three years, 14% of companies have had a data breach.

While these data breaches vary in severity, many would argue that even a little leaked data is too much. So what are the repercussions for poor information management?

At the recent AIIM Forum, ‘The Doctor’ of information management, Doug Miles, discussed the biggest concerns surrounding information governance. These include:

  • Excess litigation costs
  • Loss of valuable information
  • Loss of customer confidence
  • Bad publicity

The Doctor

Customer confidence forms the backbone of any business, and could not be more imperative in the online market place. Without it, people will stop ordering goods from Amazon, booking holidays through Travel Supermarket, or arranging affairs through Ashley Madison. Users trust websites with their most private information and will lose complete confidence in them if this information is mismanaged.

But before we grab our pitchforks, it’s important to understand that data deletion is not as straightforward as it may seem. There are enormous commercial pressures within companies to keep valuable user data, as well as legal and compliance requirements concerning backup data. It can be expensive and complex to completely erase data and is made even more difficult if you have a poor or haphazard set of databases with ad-hoc links and multiple processes.

However, redundant data is never beneficial for a business. When it comes to ROT data (Redundant, Obsolete and Trivial), Toby Bell, IBM’s ECM Marketing & Strategy Lead, recommends companies ‘Kill them all!’
